New Meals on Wheels Service for West Waterford to launch in Cappoquin!

A new Meals on Wheels service funded by the HSE will launch in Cappoquin in October 2026. The service will be based in Cappoquin Day Centre using one van initially and will deliver 40 meals a day within 10km of Cappoquin. They will be priced at €10 each and will include a main course and dessert.

Meals will be prepared by Kearney Catering in Tallow and will be distributed to customers through the MOW delivery service based in Cappoquin. Michael Kearney’s team have a superb reputation in the preparation of high quality food so the team are delighted to work with them.

A need for the service was identified with the HSE over the last 12 months, with the two closest Meals on Wheels services being based in Dungarvan and Fermoy, almost 50km apart in distance. The HSE are keen to continue to see more people live at home longer and good nutrition is key to both strong physical and mental health so the local healthcare teams in Cappoquin, Lismore, Tallow and Dungarvan were all hugely supportive of the application for this new service.

Centre, collaborated to prepare a business plan for the HSE to describe why the service is needed and also how it could be delivered. They visited several other Meals on Wheels operators to see how best the service could run in Cappoquin and it is this insight that has helped plan the service to begin in October.

Dr Derek Casey of Cappoquin Health Centre immediately came on board during the planning stage and the strength of his support, together with his team in the Centre will be essential to building up the service.
